What is Lymphatic Drainage?
Lymphatic Drainage is a light touch massage designed to aid the transportation of lymphatic fluid (lymph) through the lymphatic vessels of our body. Our lymph nodes produce various types of lymphocytes that are an integral part of our immune system. Therefore, a healthy lymphatic system is very important to a healthy body. Lymph is also responsible for removing waste products, cellular debris, bacteria and proteins from our bodies. Our lymphatic system is an open system that works to move waste toward our heart so that it may enter our bloodstream and eventually be expelled from our bodies. Lymphatic Drainage helps this process along and can reduce the buildup of interstitial fluids in our body. Lymphatic Drainage is especially beneficial to those of us suffering from Lymphedema. It is estimated that up to 25 percent of breast cancer patients who have had their lymph nodes surgically removed from their armpit area will lymphedema. Other surgeries including colon surgery, prostate surgery, or radiation treatment for cancer also may lead to lymphedema. If you need this done please contact us today to make an appointment
